Packing long tubes with protective film (as with our Auto 30/L tube packaging machine) is an essential process to ensure that these fragile and sensitive objects are transported safely without suffering damage during transport. Packaging film is a versatile and highly effective tool that offers protection from impacts, scratches and external contamination. In this context, long tube film packaging plays a crucial role in the supply chain and logistics.

Before starting the packing process, it is important to consider several aspects, such as the material of the tubes, their length and sensitivity to damage. Long tubes can be made of various materials, including plastic, metal or cardboard, and the choice of packaging film must adapt to the specific protection needs of each type of tube.

Packaging film can be of different types, such as shrink film, stretch film or adhesive film. The selection of film type depends on the specific characteristics of the tubes and packaging needs. For example, shrink film can be useful for creating a soft and versatile bag, depending on the size of the product.

The packing process begins by preparing the tubes to be wrapped in protective film. Pipes must be clean and dry to avoid damage caused by contaminants. Next, they are laid out on a suitable work surface so that they can be easily wrapped in foil.

Once the tubes are ready, the film is carefully and safely applied. This can be done manually or with the help of specialized machinery, depending on the size and quantity of tubes to be packaged. During this process, it is important to ensure that the film is stretched evenly to ensure effective protection along the entire length of the pipe.

The film not only protects pipes from physical damage, but can also act as a barrier against moisture and dust, preventing corrosion or contamination. Additionally, it can improve visibility of tube contents, making identification easier during handling and distribution.

Another important consideration is labeling. Each hose should be clearly labeled with crucial information such as material type, length, weight and other pertinent information. This helps simplify the logistics management process and ensures more efficient and accurate movement of tubes at various points in the supply chain.

In conclusion, packing long tubes with protective film thanks to the Auto 30/L for tube packaging is a fundamental step to ensure that these objects reach their destination in optimal conditions. Correct film selection and attention to detail during the packaging process are essential to ensure effective protection and efficient logistics management.

Shrink machines represent an important step in the industrial packaging process, used to apply thermoplastic films around products or packages, which are then heated to shrink and adhere to the contents. The introduction of robotic lines in this context can bring numerous advantages. (AUTO 40 UNIQUE FOR SOAP PACKAGING LOADED WITH PICK & PLACE).

Robotic lines for feeding shrink-wrapping machines offer various benefits in terms of efficiency and precision. Robots can be programmed to handle loading and unloading of packaged products quickly and accurately, reducing machine downtime and increasing overall productivity.

Additionally, robotic systems can be equipped with advanced sensors and cameras to precisely detect the position and orientation of products, allowing for optimal positioning within shrink machines. This precision helps reduce waste and improve package quality.

Flexibility represents another advantage of robotic lines for feeding shrink-wrapping machines. Robots can be easily repurposed and programmed to handle different types of products or packages without the need to completely change the system, allowing companies to quickly adapt to changes in market demand.

However, the implementation of these robotic lines requires careful design and integration into the existing production process. Compatibility between robots and shrink machines must be considered, as well as staff training to effectively operate and maintain these automated systems.

In conclusion, the use of robotic lines to feed shrink machines offers an efficient, precise and flexible solution to optimize the industrial packaging process. If properly implemented, these solutions can lead to increased productivity and quality, allowing companies to maintain a competitive position in the market.

From pinholes to burn out, find out what your shrink wrap is telling you.

Nothing is more satisfying than a perfect shrink wrap when the package comes out of the shrink tunnel. Experienced operators know, however, that when a package comes out with glitches, the result itself provides clues on how to adjust the system configuration to correct the problem. If you're having trouble with shrink wrap, all you need to do is "read" these clues about the film.

The article “Problems with Shrink Film” explains the potential underlying cause of six of the most common film problems, including burnout and pinholes, as well as the configuration adjustments that typically resolve the issue.

Three variables that affect the results of shrink wrap

Before we look at these six common problems, it's important to understand the variables that affect the shrinkage process. These three variables are: bag size, air evacuation/perforations and tunnel temperature or speed.

Let's look at how these three variables affect the film.

Bag size

During the shrinking process, the bag must be large enough to allow the film to peel away from the product and collapse just before exiting the tunnel chamber. If the bag size is too tight, the film will contact the product too soon, resulting in fish eyes or crow's feet. The film must first swell from the product and then collapse.

Air evacuation (drilling)

Bleeding the air out too quickly doesn't allow the film to inflate properly, resulting in wrinkles, crow's feet, or fish eyes. Bleeding the air out too slowly will cause bubbles, a cloudy film and potential burns. Placement of Perforations: Checking which part of the bag holds air the longest can help control shrinkage. The most critical element for the appearance of the package is the air evacuation control!

Tunnel temperature and speed

For a good appearance of the package, it must spend 3 to 4 seconds in the tunnel chamber. The size of the tunnel depends on the productivity. Always adjust the speed and temperature of the tunnel conveyor so that the film balloon collapses just before exiting the tunnel chamber.

Six common movie problems

Now that we have an understanding of the three most important variables in the shrink process, let's look at how an incorrect machine or film setting can be seen in the final package, the most common cause, and how to correct the problem by adjusting the set up.

BurntProblems with shrink films

BURNOUT: Holes or cracks in the film outside the weld line

COMMON CAUSE: Insufficient air exhaust

ADJUSTMENT: Add some perforations so that the air escapes more quickly

Problems with shrink filmsCloudiness

CLOUD: Film is foggy/blurred

COMMON CAUSE: The tunnel temperature is too high

ADJUSTMENT: Adjust the temperature or try speeding up the conveyor belt. You may also need to add some perforations.

Problems with shrink filmsCrow's feet

CROW'S FEET: Wrinkles at the corners and near the edges

COMMON CAUSE: Inadequate bag size: bag is too small or has too many perforations

REGULATION: The bag should inflate away from the product during the shrinking process. Adjust the size of the bag and remove some of the perforations.

Problems with shrink filmsDog ears

DOG EARS: Curled film protruding at the end of the seal

COMMON CAUSE: incorrect bag size, too many perforations, time and temperature in the tunnel

ADJUSTMENT: Make adjustments to ensure the bag has 3 to 4 seconds of dwell time inside the tunnel chamber.

Fish eyesFish eyes

FISH EYES: Rounded spots near the edges

COMMON CAUSE: Inadequate bag size and/or too many perforations

REGULATION: The bag should inflate away from the product during the shrinking process. If there are too many holes, the bag won't inflate properly, or if the bag is too small, it will contact the product too quickly. It will help to adjust the size of the bag and remove some of the perforations.

PinholesPinholes

PIN HOLE: Small holes along the gasket

COMMON CAUSE: An installation problem where there is too much tension on the film during the soldering process

ADJUSTMENT: Try making a bigger bag and loosening the tension on the film.

Conclusion

Do you have one or more of these problems with shrink films?

Learning to read the film markings and properly adjusting bag size, perforations and tunnel settings are the keys to ensuring proper film retraction and flawless presentation. We of pactur we have a very long experience in setting up heat-shrink machines in relation to the various products and therefore if you have problems with heat-shrink films we advise you to call us immediately if you have problems packaging your products: we will find a solution together!

Global value chains are at a critical juncture, caught between growing international demand resulting from the post-pandemic economic recovery, on the one hand, and a combination of supply shortages and bottlenecks in the transport sector, on the other hand. other. These two factors are causing an increase in raw material prices, unimaginable until a few months ago. In this regard, we take the liberty of bringing you some data and some reflections, which we have, in turn, collected from informative sites.

What are the causes of the increase in raw material prices?

raw material price increases
According to authoritative experts on the subject, the cause is the strong imbalance between supply and demand; this gap is constantly growing, which cannot be stopped. The most recent estimates have marked an increase in the prices of some materials in the order of 200% in the last year alone and thanks to the collapse in prices that had characterized the first months of the Covid-19 pandemic, made the increase so substantial . A striking example, which closely involves our production, is steel, which went from $380 per ton in June 2020 to $1,100 per ton in September 2021: a dizzying increase that reaches almost 300%. As for oil, the cost of which collapsed in 2020 (-68%) and has since risen drastically (+203%), it is possible that its price could settle at 60-75 dollars a barrel. However, all materials have had a similar story, but the negative primacy of increases belongs to copper, iron, steel, corn, coffee, wheat and soybeans, timber, semiconductors, plastics, cardboard for packaging, rare earths, lithium. To translate the situation into numbers, the purchase of raw materials accounts for 46.6% of the turnover of manufacturing companies and 33.1% for those in the construction sector. To these dynamics was added towards the end of last summer (but in a process that had already been developing for some months) also a surge in energy prices, resulting from an increase in the demand for hydrocarbons (natural gas in particular ) and, also in this case, to the lack of supply. In fact, natural gas has gone from 1.22 dollars per MMBtu (British Thermal Unit, a unit of measurement used to quantify natural gas and whose unit corresponds approximately to 28 m3) in May 2020 to $25.81 in September 2021. Certainly these two peaks cannot be considered as fixed reference values given the frequency of price changes, but the difference gives an idea of what is happening in the global energy market. The transition will lead to an increase in the cost of fossil energy sources and these are the first consequences. Within the EU, the increase in prices is also partly linked to the implementation of some of the EU's climate policies. The increases in gas and diesel are added to the increase in the cost of energy, thus compromising the expected post-pandemic recovery. Meanwhile, governments in many countries will have to deal with rising inflation. Indeed, the US FED and the ECB in Europe are already taking steps to prevent runaway inflation. The strong push on costs, unsustainable in some sectors, is reducing business margins and determininga rise in producer priceswhich in November 2021, net of energy, rose by 8.9%, a rate of change never seen since 2001.

As we said in the introduction, we send you this information for disclosure purposes, just as we have received and collected it. In turn, we suffer from this situation, which inevitably reverberates on our prices. Nonetheless, we have kept our increases to a minimum and have absorbed, to a very high percentage, these general increases.

INTEGRATION WITH ROBOTS IN FULLY AUTOMATIC LINES

Paola Dozza - Pactur srl
Paula Dozza

Before showing you the last example of customization that led to the Automatic Packaging Machines that can be integrated with robots, I would like to report some concepts of industrial robotics and its interaction with other machines.

CARTESIAN ROBOTS: WHAT ARE THEY?

The Cartesian robot it is the simplest of the candidate robots for automatic assembly. A Cartesian robot, also known as linear robot and in the version as portal robot, moves the product on the Cartesian planes, i.e. in straight lines along the X, Y and Z axes.

Based on the needs required by the application, a Cartesian robot, can be realized with linear units with belt, screw, rack or linear motor.

The application requests dictate the work area which is however scalable, consequently it can be said with certainty that the Cartesian robot is an extremely flexible robot.

COLLABORATIVE ROBOTS: WHAT ARE THEY?

Collaborative robots are anthropomorphic robots with movements on six axes designed to meet safety, flexibility and compactness criteria and designed to work in close contact with the operator even without protective barriers around.

Most collaborative robots can operate without the aid of protective barriers around them, unlike traditional robots which instead need expensive fences to separate the space where they operate from that in which people operate.

Ease of programming is another feature that emphasizes the flexibility of collaborative robots and Cartesian robots.

AUTOMATE PACKAGING THANKS TO ROBOTS

The introduction of robots in the packaging sector has brought significant advantages by optimizing operations thanks to their simplicity, speed and efficiency. The automation of this phase of the process plays a crucial role in optimizing the costs associated with new packaging.

Robots represent a leap forward in the packaging industry thanks to their ability to perform repetitive and precise tasks reliably. Their versatility allows them to adapt to a wide range of operations, from product handling to assembly and packaging, ensuring a notable acceleration of operations.

Robotic automation offers greater speed in packaging activities, significantly reducing production times. Their efficiency is remarkable, allowing an increase in productivity without compromising the quality of the process. The precision in the execution of operations by the robots helps to minimize errors, ensuring a uniform and reliable result.

One of the most significant advantages is the reduction in costs associated with new packaging. Automation allows for more efficient management of resources, reducing dependence on human labor and minimizing material waste. Furthermore, optimizing operations thanks to robots can reduce downtime, increasing overall production capacity and contributing to lower production costs.

The implementation of robots in packaging not only improves the efficiency and speed of operations, but also contributes to greater competitiveness in the market. The ability to reduce the costs of new packaging, while simultaneously improving the quality and reliability of the process, represents a strategic advantage for companies that wish to remain competitive and satisfy growing market demands.

We at Pactur are very careful to make our automatic packaging machines comparable with fully automatic production linesor robotic

as you can see in this example of integration with line of the System design (Automatic packaging machines that can be integrated with robots).
