Resto del Carlino interview with Paola Dozza
Small but multinational is Pactur's trump card.
Mascagni Prize to Pactur.
A small company since artisan heart and the industrial vocation. It is the identity card of Pactur, which manufactures and markets automatic machines for packaging in heat-shrinking film all over the world.
Founded in 1986 by Andrea Turra, today Pactur is led by Paola Dozza, who joined 25 years ago with a degree in languages and has been the bare owner of the company for two years.
Text of the interview by Resto del Carlino after the delivery of the Mascagni Prize to Pactur:
Dozza, how to survive with ten employees in a Packaging Valley made up of giants?
«Offering a service that others are unable to offer: machines ready to coat anything. Customers arrive here with an object, they tell us 'I have to pack it', and from that moment their problem becomes our problem».
Here, what are you packing?
“It is impossible to make a truly exhaustive list. From food to graphic products, from automotive components to cosmetics… from regular to more anomalous shapes».
And the quantities? They will count too.
«We have small manual machines, practically standard, and complex plants capable of packing products leaving a production line. Indeed, this flexibility has been one of the two keys to our success right from the start».
And the other?
«Right from the start, the founder, Andrea Turra, had the intuition to look abroad, so as not to be tied to a single national market as well as a single type of product. In the years of globalization and, then, in the more recent ones of the great crisis, that choice proved to be our salvation".
For that, at a certain point, she arrived, a very young language graduate.
«As a student I never thought of teaching, or of being a translator: my dream was to know languages in order to be able to explain to as many people as possible what I was dealing with».
To survive abroad you will have looked to subcontractors as well as customers…
“Never, and never will. You see, a small company like ours can't compete on quantity or price. We need to focus on professionalism, quality, design, and that's why we still continue to do everything entirely on our own, from design to final testing. For us, abroad is the company that paints our sheet metal a few kilometers from here: one of those rare jobs for which we entrust ourselves to the outside».
The latest news?
«For some years now we have expanded our range by opening up to shrinkwrapper machines: a particular type of packaging that does not require total closure, as occurs, for example, with water packs».
And the future?
“Take the world map, and add flags. Continuing to offer the ideal solution to customers who hadn't found it until then."
